Former first lady Melania Trump said she was completely
comfortable with posing nude during her modeling days.
In her memoir Melania, which was released Tuesday, she recounts how her
nude photos were put on the cover of The New York Post during the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential election.
The tabloid used the ‘disgusting heaadline,’ as Melania described it,
‘Menage à Trump.’
‘My upbringing in Europe had fostered a different perspective on nudity, a more
open and accepting attitude,’ she wrote. ‘We were accustomed to beaches where nudity was commonplace, a natural and uncontroversial aspect of life.’
She noted how ‘attitudes toward the female body in the United
States were starkly different.’

‘I believed then, as I do now, that women should take pride in their bodies, not
feel shame,’ Melania continued.
‘During my modeling days, posing nude was commonplace and hardly
scandalous,’ she said. ‘To me, those images were artistic and tasteful, fitting for a publication like
Max, which showcased many renowned super-models.’
But there was another problem with the photographer selling the photos of Melania to the newspaper – he
originally said the photoshoot happened a year before.
‘This misinformation led to unfounded allegations that I had illegally worked
in the United States, a claim propagated by
the New York Post,’ she wrote.
‘Although the photographer later admitted the error, the damage was done
– sensationalized lies about me spread worldwide, driven by a shameful pursuit of
scandal and profit,’ the former first lady added.

Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first time author
dreams of – massive amounts of free publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio.
And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what was written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of how Qantas sold
us out.
Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to him
being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry,
Aston told Daily Mail Australia his book is ‘not a hit job on Anthony Albanese’.
Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that the Prime
Minister ‘had a direct line to Alan Joyce’.
The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights by personally requesting them
from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to
shoot the messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot.
He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was
hiding his employment history.
‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas
employee,’ the Prime Minister said.
But before the book even gets to the contents page there is a photo of
Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications senior adviser.

And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for
then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook before Scott Morrison.
‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of
the first page of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book launch.
Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr
Albanese’s response gave the book, Aston was
still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime
Minister made.
‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this
many times with public figures and leaders who struggle to see their own part in it, the terrible circumstances
that they create,’ he said.

Asked if Mr Albanese had been poorly advised in his attack, Aston, who is a former Australian Financial Review
columnist, wonders if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to advice at this point’.
‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue and
he’s blaming me and he’s blaming other MP’s for also taking upgrades
(on Qantas flights).
‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk
about, which is, did you ask Qantas for confirmed
upgrades on your private holidays when you were
the Transport Minister? The answer is “yes” and he’s
desperately trying to avoid saying it.’
Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime Minister should refer
himself to the anti-corruption commission over the flight upgrades.
Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many people are
struggling to pay their mortgage or rent, the latest blow to his
credibility has led to calls for him to resign.
Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though.
‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to
get this far. I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

‘So to the extent that it has, I would say … anyone who
reads the book will learn that this book is not a hit job on Anthony Albanese.
This book is about Qantas.
‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians
on both sides of the aisle, Labor, Liberal, National,
you name it. They’ve been doing it for more than a generation.
‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia. I’m not here trying to get a scalp.
That’s not what this book is about and it never was.’
But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with
Aston mirrors the conversations being had across Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese.
‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with
the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he said.

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics
a long time and that kind of behaviour is quite normalised to
him, is what I’ve seen.
‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and
sitting at the front row of the Australian Open Tennis.
‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist
almost every year for 12 years and he was
the only Prime Minister (I saw there).
‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the International Grand Slam.
He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.
‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite
get what it looks like to others when he’s on the
gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’
In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and
asks if their flight can be upgraded.
The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had a very direct line to
Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.
‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if the seat’s empty
when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.
‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where the
ticket is converted and you are guaranteed. You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers going
“Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.
‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and the only person at Qantas
who can issue those types of upgrades is the CEO.
No other executive can do that.
‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades (for Anthony Albanese).’
Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes
during his time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for
politicians to get up there.
‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too.
Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane, it’s very hard to
go back.
‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly in business, but they don’t get paid like CEOs …
‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford
to go flying around in the front of the plane on personal
travel.
‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’
Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.
But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events.
Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.
‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

The musical, which bombed at the box office, is ‘poised to lose at least
$150 million to $200 million in its theatrical run’ according to the publication.
The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film and about
$100 million on marketing and distribution, according to the report.
It would need to gross about $450 million at
the box office to break even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters
— though Warner Bros. sources claim the number is $375
million.

suggested by anonymous “insiders” or “rival executives” are grossly

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy
in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’
In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios logo.
A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of
the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.
Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner-
with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge
past successes.
It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn
and Safran – who took control of DC two months before
production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.
Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for
the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a
reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.
movie.’
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if
the director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’
The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per
cent less.
A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about
genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re
going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with
Gaga and Phoenix at the LA premiere September 30
However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.
A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.
A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.
And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t
listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.
Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere
the film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips
pushed back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported the decision to bring the

March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International Inc is working on options to exit the
Russian market, citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and
operating environment in the country following
its invasion of Ukraine.
The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday
it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products and
canceled all product launches for the year in Russia.
It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks, heated tobacco units intended for use with its IQOS ILUMA devices, as well
as related investment of $150 million.
Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and decided to scale
down manufacturing operations in the country.
Rival Imperial Brands too has started talks to transfer its Russian business to a local third party, joining BAT in exiting

A billionaire couple have won the right to remove a single tree from the driveway of their lavish $20million mansion after being blocked by their local
council.
Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire Robert Holmes a Court, and
his wife Zara had been at loggerheads with their local
council over a request to remove a single peppermint tree growing in the middle of their driveway.
The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent, tree-lined
suburb overlooking Perth’s Freshwater Bay for $20.1million in August.
They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of Peppermint
Grove refused the request on the grounds the tree was not dead or deceased.
‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that
the tree placement is unusual,’ Ms Holmes a Court previously told a council meeting.
‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle of the driveway makes
it quite tricky to reverse out.’
The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting last week after an alternative motion was unanimously passed that allowed the tree to be removed on the condition they paid a $2,500 bond before any work was done on the driveway.
They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their
property.

Ms Holmes a Court previously claimed the tree’s odd placement also made it difficult to spot cars turning the
corner at a nearby intersection with Bay View Terrace.
After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting,
councillor Douglas Jackson said it was a ‘good outcome’.
‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or expectation,
but also matches the council’s needs at the same time by ensuring that there
is tree cover on the verge of that property,’ he said.
Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that would even make it
an offence to damage or remove any mature trees on private property
without council approval.
Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said he hoped the Shire of Peppermint Grove would ‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.
‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with local government.
I’ve always been on the record that we need local governments to take a common sense approach to issues,’ Mr
Carey told the West Australian.
‘And I understand people are passionate about trees.
But ultimately, we do need local governments to assess the situation and
find pragmatic outcomes.’
According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion – which is built on a corner block along the
banks of the Swan River – the sprawling Federation-style property was built in around
1904.

though reported figures vary at exactly how pricey it was to make.
Phillips told Variety that it was less than the reported $200 million; Others have it pegged at $190 million. Warner Bros.
released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came from 415 IMAX screens.
Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,788 screens,
bringing its total global earnings estimate to $121.1 million.
In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also open in Japan and China.
Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which added $18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its
domestic total to nearly $64 million. Globally,
it’s made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took third place in weekend five,
Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth and
Universal and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded out the top five.
The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s White Bird, flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.
Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the box office
deficit.

“sham” by the opposition.
Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and
legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party, in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.
Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with
tablets used to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.
In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas with voters still in the
queues, it said.
Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the vote for
a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked
to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at
4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

“Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he said.
But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried “everyone will flock to one place again.”
The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with some calling for a halt in the electoral process.
Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a
joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party.
Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence
of a generation born after independence are challenging support towards SWAPO which has
ruled since 1990.
Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah,
who could become the first woman to lead the country
if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich country.
“To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling
stations.
“Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked
the 49-year-old security agent.
“It was to get people frustrated.”

Lady Gaga is getting back to basics.
Following her panned performance in the flop movie Joker: Folie à Deux,
the New York City native, 38, is releasing a single titled Disease, set to be released Friday.
Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming seventh album,
was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning artist’s Instagram account, as she captioned the image:
‘DISEASE 10.25.’
In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching vehicle, the actress-singer, whose real name is Stefani

is the reported budget. A $40 or $50 million opening
for a less expensive movie would be a solid debut.’
Joker: Folie à Deux cost at least twice as much as the first film to produce,
though reported figures vary at exactly how pricey it was to make.
Phillips told Variety that it was less than the
reported $200 million; Others have it pegged at $190 million. Warner Bros.
released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came from 415 IMAX screens.
Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,788 screens, bringing its total global earnings estimate to $121.1 million. In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also open in Japan and China.
Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s
The Wild Robot, which added $18.7 million in its second
weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $64 million. Globally, it’s made
over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took third place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth
and Universal and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded
out the top five.
The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s
White Bird, flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.
Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome twist for theater owners hoping to
narrow the box office deficit.

especially since the first film was such a success and Joaquin won an Oscar.

it is a bucket list moment for her to be involved.’

JAKARTA/LOS ANGELES, Nov 13 (Reuters) – Juul Labs Inc is exploring
selling its compact vaping devices in Asia and has sounded out government officials in Indonesia,
one of the world’s most smoker-friendly countries, although gaining
approval there could face significant hurdles.
Expansion into Asia would provide the fast-growing firm with new markets at a time when it faces increased regulatory scrutiny
in the United States and Israel over the potential health risks of its products’ high nicotine content.
Juul representatives held discussions with the Indonesian government last month about
introducing its vaping devices, the country’s finance ministry officials told
Reuters.
Indonesia has one of the world’s highest rates of
smoking among adults and teenage boys and imposes no penalties for selling cigarettes to minors.
It also has a population of 260 million, making it a highly
attractive market for tobacco and vaping firms.
A person familiar with Juul’s plans said executives for the San Francisco-based company are concerned authorities may be reluctant to grant approval due to likely
opposition from the traditional tobacco industry, which provides much of Indonesia’s tax revenue.
Tobacco taxes accounted for nearly 150 trillion rupiah ($10.2 billion) or
about 11 percent of national tax revenue in 2017,
government data showed. Each province also imposes
taxes on cigarettes.
Juul is also worried its argument that vaping is healthier than smoking will not hold
much sway in Indonesia, which is not as concerned as other countries about health issues, said
the person, declining to be identified as the discussions were not public.
Juul representatives reached out to the finance ministry to discuss how it
would be taxed on any sales of devices there, the Indonesian officials said.
The government needs to examine the domestic e-cigarette market to determine how a foreign player such as Juul could hurt local small and
labour-intensive e-cigarette firms, said Sunaryo, a senior official in Indonesia’s customs
and excise office, who like many Indonesians uses only one name.
“We will need it to study it,” he said, adding he wasn’t sure Juul would comply with a regulation that requires e-cigarette
devices and liquids to be sold separately.
Juul also would need approval from Indonesia’s Food and Drug Agency.
Officials at the agency said Juul had yet to be in touch.
Other Asian countries the three-year old firm is actively considering for expansion include India, South Korea and the Philippines, the person familiar with Juul’s plans
said.
In addition to Indonesia, Juul filed trademark applications for those countries between April and
October 2018, as well as in Malaysia and Singapore, according to a Reuters review of government filings.
It opened its first Asia office in Singapore
in July.
So far Juul, currently valued at $16 billion, is available only in the
United States, Canada, the UK and Israel. It has plans to enter Russia later this
year.
Juul said in a statement to Reuters it is “proactively learning more” and engaging with local officials in Asia “to understand and hear their views.” It does not have immediate plans to launch in any
Asian country, it said. Juul spokeswoman Victoria Davis declined to elaborate.
A TAXING QUESTION
Indonesia is one of only a handful of United Nations member states that has not signed on to the World Health Organization’s
global treaty that sets standards for tobacco control.
Roughly two-thirds of Indonesian men smoke tobacco
daily, and more than 21 percent of boys aged 13-15 smoked cigarettes regularly,
according to a WHO report last year.
E-cigarettes, available in Indonesia since at
least 2013, are a small but growing market. The customs office estimated there are about 300 unsupervised liquid makers known as brewers in Indonesia,
producing various liquid products to more than 4,000 vape
stores and 900,000 smokers.
Philip Morris International Inc, maker of Marlboro cigarettes, which now
controls about a third of Indonesia’s market through its stake in Sampoerna, does not offer
any of its non-combustible cigarette products in Indonesia.
That includes its IQOS device, a heat-not-burn tobacco product, according to a company spokesman,
who declined to comment on why it has not introduced the product.
In October, the government imposed a 57 percent tax on electronic-cigarette liquids,
on par with taxes on traditional cigarettes.
But tax collection, particularly from smaller companies, is
difficult in Indonesia and new rules are often ignored.
Juul now commands nearly 75 percent of U.S. e-cigarette market share, up from
13.6 percent in early 2017, according to a Wells Fargo analysis of
Nielsen retail data.
Its products, like most electronic cigarettes, vaporize a
liquid containing nicotine. One Juul pod contains as
much nicotine as a traditional pack of 20 cigarettes, according to
the company’s U.S. marketing.
Juul liquid in the U.S. has a nicotine concentration of 59 milligrams per
milliliter, much higher than the liquids typically sold in earlier versions of e-cigarettes and nearly three
times the allowable limit in the European Union.
In August, Israel banned Juul devices with nicotine concentration of more than 20 mg/mL, citing “a grave risk to public health.” Juul
is appealing that decision and currently offers
a lower nicotine-strength electronic cigarette in Israel.
In September, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration opened an investigation into Juul and
other electronic cigarette companies, citing the rising number of teens who
appear to be using Juul and other vaping devices.
This week it is expected to issue a ban on fruit and candy-flavoured e-cigarettes sold in convenience stores and gas stations.
In its statement to Reuters, Juul said its products are intended for adult use only, and that it aims to “improve the lives of the world’s one billion adult smokers” by providing an alternative to cigarettes.

March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International Inc is
working on options to exit the Russian market, citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory
and operating environment in the country following
its invasion of Ukraine.
The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue
from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products and
canceled all product launches for the year in Russia.
It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks,
heated tobacco units intended for use with its IQOS ILUMA

ZURICH/LONDON, Oct 17 (Reuters) – Global consumer goods companies have been banking on emerging markets to
drive their growth, so signs on Thursday that sales have come off
the boil in the once-booming economies of China and India could set alarm bells ringing.
Unilever, Nestle and drinks group Pernod Ricard all pointed
to slower progress in key Asian markets as a factor for muted sales growth over the last three months but for the time
being are keeping targets intact.
Packaged goods companies like these have been relying more on emerging
markets to offset changing habits in developed economies, where growing
numbers of consumers are turning to fresher foods, niche brands or cutting
back on spending.
Yet two of the biggest emerging markets are now showing signs of slowing growth,
with trade tensions with the United States hitting domestic consumption in China and
more erratic and damaging monsoons curbing rural spending in India.
Anglo-Dutch Unilever said growth “slowed a little” in China during the
third quarter, while Nestle said its sales performance in China was flat over the first nine months
of the year.
Including globally managed businesses such as
Nespresso, Nestle’s growth in China was 1.5%, Chief Executive Mark Schneider told investors on a call.
French drinks company Pernod Ricard said the pace of its sales growth
in China slowed to 6% in the quarter from 27% a year earlier due
to challenging market conditions.
“We are seeing different dynamics between price points (in China),” Nestle finance chief
Francois-Xavier Roger said.
“Super premium offerings such as Illuma (infant formula) and Purina (pet food) grew well while mainstream products like Yinlu peanut milk, congee and S26 (infant formula) were challenged,” he added.
Unilever finance chief Graeme Pitkethly said sales growth at China’s
bricks-and-mortar retailers slowed to 1% in the third quarter from 2% a year earlier.
“There have definitely been signs of slowing markets in India and China,”
Pitkethly told Reuters.
Earlier this week, a poll showed that China’s economic growth was expected to decelerate
to a near 30-year low. . The economy in India is growing at
its slowest rate in six years.
“In India, we are going from very high rates of market growth to growth rates in the mid-single digits,” added Pitkethly.
In Argentina, another of Unilever’s big emerging
markets, hyper-inflation has kept shoppers away from stores and led to a 4% drop in volumes.
TARGETS HELD FOR NOW
Pernod Ricard’s CFO Helene de Tissot blamed a softer trade environment for
the drop in sales of its spirits such as Chivas in China.
However, she said Pernod was still confident of achieving its mid-term sales growth targets
in India and China.
Nestle, known for KitKat chocolate bars and Maggi noodles,
posted 3.7% organic sales growth in the third quarter, in line with expectations, while Unilever reported 2.9% growth, just shy of analysts’ estimates.
Both companies maintained their operating margin and
sales targets for the year.
Unilever shares traded up 1.5% at 1345 GMT, while Nestle
slipped 2.2%.
Pernod said its like-for-like sales rose only 1.3%, down from 10.4% a year ago and below
analysts’ expectations.
Pernod shares fell 4.6%, trimming gains for the year
to under 11%. The French company is facing U.S.
tariffs as a result of a long-running dispute over aircraft subsidies.
Nestle shares have been the better performer over the year to date, gaining 30% as investors warmed
to Schneider’s strategy. Unilever, under new CEO Alan Jope this
year, has seen its share price increase by around 14%.

July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the
test-launch of its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S.
to the fourth quarter on Tuesday and lowered its annual forecast for the heated tobacco business.
The pilot was earlier scheduled to run in Austin, Texas,
in the second quarter, for which the company reported results
on the day.
The company declined to comment on why the launch had been delayed.
Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand its portfolio of
alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes
amid stricter regulations and falling smoking rates in some
markets.
The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device in the United
States is also facing resistance from health campaigners, who have written to regulators in the country accusing the company of
misrepresenting past regulatory decisions, Reuters reported last week.
The company also awaits market authorization from the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration for its IQOS ILUMA device, which it
expects by the second half of 2025.
A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has already hit shipments this year, with Philip Morris saying the
impact from the ban was “slightly greater” than previously assumed.
This led the company to temper its expectations for volume growth
in the heated tobacco category to around 13% for the full year, down from between 14% and 16% expected earlier.
However, Philip Morris topped quarterly expectations
and raised its annual sales and profit forecasts, betting on demand
for its Zyn nicotine pouches, as well as higher cigarette pricing.

the adults-only online content provider founded in 2016 by a
young Essex businessman called Tim Stokely, which is now one of the most visited (and lucrative) websites in the world.
Just last month, Lily Allen caused a stir by revealing that
she makes more money charging $10 (£8) – the site works in dollars –
for pictures of her feet on her OnlyFans account labelled ‘La Dolca
Feeta’ than she does from her 7.5million monthly listeners on Spotify.
But Lily’s content is tame in comparison to much of the content on the site, the sort company execs refer to as ‘spicy’.
Everything from cheeky shots of bottoms peeking out of bubble baths, blondes stirring vats of steaming pasta in G-strings, hot men waxing cars in their pants,
right through the sex spectrum to twosomes, threesomes, sixsomes
and hardcore pornographic videos.
But also because, thanks to the allure of OnlyFans and the astonishing sums that a teeny number of the platform’s 4.1million creatives are raking in,
more and more young women (and it is mostly
young women) who would never have considered it before are suddenly happy to
join in and sell photos of, well, pretty much anything, to pay rent, settle
credit card bills or splash out on nice holidays. Basically, a flashier life all round.
‘We feel empowered. We have agency. It’s completely up to me if I take my top off or not,’ says one 21-year-old girl, who joined a
year ago and makes enough in a week to cover a
year’s student rent at Sheffield University and prefers not to give
her name.
‘And I am happy to do it because for once I make the rules, in the safety of
my home and they’re paying me to do it. It’s a mug’s game, but
I am not the mug.’
For the benefit of those readers who are not among the site’s
305million users, OnlyFans offers creators a platform where
they can charge their fans a subscription fee ranging from $4.99
to $49.99 a month to look at their content, contact them (or more
often access their ‘chatter’ – more of which later) and access often more explicit,
personalised, ‘à la carte’ content through ‘tips’.

In 2023, the site generated a record $6.6billion (£5.2billion), of which the company takes a straight 20 per
cent – much less than YouTube – and the rest goes to the
‘performers’.
It is unlike Instagram or other social media sites in that nothing is suggested
– instead, you have to search for, and then subscribe to, individual accounts to see much more than profile pictures.
Which is a good thing, because while some of the content is anodyne, much is highly sexual and
many people on the site can bob freely from one to another.
Perhaps a cookery hack one day, modelling new boots the next, then graduate to a few cheeky cleavage and bikini shots and
more, as the money becomes more tempting.
Every week, it seems, we hear of someone who has made millions.
Last month it was announced that American influencer Corinna Kopf had retired from the site,
aged 28, after making $67million (£53million).
In her best month, she reportedly earned more than $2million (£1.6million).
Rapper Cardi B is said to earn more than $9million (£7.1million) a month from the site.
Meanwhile, Darcie Rattles was an out-of-work
bricklayer with £6,000 in credit card bills and debts when she joined
OnlyFans in 2022.
‘I was thinking: how the hell am I going to get to next week?
How am I going to pay my credit cards?’ she says in an online interview.
‘I’m young, I’ve got a good body and I’ve got a lot of followers.
It is what any girl would turn to. It had been in the back of mind for two years, but then I did it.’
Within two days of launching, she had earned enough
to pay off her debts. Today, Darcie, who comes across as likeable, down-to-earth and has no qualms about what she shares, claims to earn more than £250,000 a year.

Though it does tend to be the other bits, because Darcie’s content promises very few clothes and, for
those who pay extra, ‘a naughty side to me you’ve never seen before’.
But even Darcie seems like the girl next door compared
to Lily Phillips, a British model who earned £2,000 in her
first 24 hours on the site and recently went viral for
sleeping with 101 men over a 14-hour period.
She has since announced she is planning to set a record of having sex with 1,
000 men in 24 hours.
And Bonnie Blue, a beautiful blonde with a golden tan and astonishingly white teeth, who has worked her way
round Derby, Nottingham, Cancun and Australia, sleeping with university students.
On one night during Nottingham Trent freshers’ week – after publicising her stunt by wearing a sandwich board that read: ‘Bonk me for free and let me film it’ –
she had boys queuing up from 6pm until five in the morning.
‘I got through them all,’ she said proudly in one interview in which she reminds us that, thanks
to OnlyFans, she has already banked more than £3 million –
for which she was applauded by her followers for her entrepreneurship.
But all that is chicken feed when you consider the £370 million dividend that company owner paid
himself last year.
And these days that’s Leonid Radvinsky, who bought a majority
stake from Tim Stokely in 2018, two years after he
started the business with the help of a loan from his father.
It was the Covid-era lockdowns that thrust OnlyFans into
the stratosphere. Everyone shut up at home, nothing to do.
In 2020, it generated revenues of $2.23billion (£1.8billion).
By 2021, it was up to $4.8billion (£3.8billion). There was a brief hiatus in October of that year when they tried
banning sexually explicit content but that
lasted about ten minutes before they switched back.
There have been plenty of scandals along the way. A BBC investigation back in 2021 revealed
that children were not just accessing the material online by foxing the age
verification process but were also selling explicit videos on the website.
Leah, 17, had used a fake driving licence to set up an OnlyFans account
where she made £5,000 uploading revealing videos of herself.
There have also been claims of OnlyFans creators using public gyms and spaces to make adult content.
Recently there has been more concerns that the company is not doing enough to protect minors.
OnlyFans, however, prefers to portray itself as a
force for good, with supporters arguing that it empowers people
by allowing them to sell content – over which they have full control – directly to consumers.
And many of the Gen Z generation seem to agree.
‘It’s fine. It’s empowering. It’s taking control,’ they cry, pointing out that the site has loads of moderators and a tight security system to ensure that all users are over 18.
And they say, anyway, that OnlyFans isn’t just about sex.
Of course, they’re right. It has long been awash with pneumatic reality TV
stars and the likes of Lottie Moss, Kerry Katona and Katie Price, who are happy to tease their followers with a few cheeky peeks in skimpy bikinis.
I spend an afternoon browsing the site and, while it is not all ‘spicy’ content
as the company executives like to call it, everything is dripping
with sauce and promise.
The big lips, the push-up bras, even the way a pretty Spanish chef is holding her paella pan. Company executives have been pushing hard to make the platform more mainstream – offering contracts and financial incentives to encourage musicians,
sports stars, cooks, anyone really, to come on and share a bit of exclusive – or niche – content.
Really, anything that people will pay to look at – glimpses backstage at concerts.
Celebrities in the bath.
During the 2024 Olympic Games, a raft of athletes jumped on the OnlyFans bandwagon to share
pictures of their beautifully toned bodies.
Along with Jack Laugher, Team NZ rower Robbie Manson uses the site to share ‘exclusive
content that tastefully explores the boundaries, including
artistic portrayals of nudity’ for $14.99 a month.

Elise Christie turned to the site when she found herself in financial difficulties.
All of which seems to be working well for them, but
it can be rather murkier for others.
Not least because, in less than a decade, OnlyFans has spawned an entire support industry of ‘sugar daddies’ who support performers financially and ‘chatters’ who work for them.
‘Sugar daddies’ tend to be older male businessmen who ‘invest’ in promising creatives.
In what are referred to rather murkily as ‘mutually beneficial deals’, they invest in branding
and marketing and videography to boost traffic.
Chatters are different. For the real stars, the traffic is so high and the interaction with followers so demanding that if they had to do it all themselves, there’s no way they would ever have time to put their pyjamas back on.
So ‘chatters’ – a sort of online 21st-century Cyrano de Bergerac – do that for them.
Keeping them engaged, online, needy and most of all, spending, spending, spending for more and more
content.
Which means, of course, that the whole thing is a total scam.
The poor daft subscriber thinks he’s really making
a connection with ‘Racy Tracey from Twickenham’, but is more likely
chatting to a middle-aged father of three from the Philippines.
He will have learnt everything about Tracey – her
favourite colour, favourite animal and favourite position – have studied a script that reminds
him ‘it’s all about selling, selling, selling’, and will be
being paid $4 an hour for his efforts. Or the subscriber
could just be talking to an AI bot – which perhaps is more appealing.

doing something, well, grabby.
So, despite all the tales of golden riches, the average earnings
of an OnlyFans creative is still just $150 (£118) a month and,
with the market now so flooded, is only likely to go one way.
And it’s easy to see how, if you’re a young woman who has convinced
yourself that you’re in control, empowered and mistress
of your own destiny, you could find yourself moving inevitably
and inexorably up (or perhaps down) the scale, revealing more
and more.
Until, before you know it, like Bonnie Blue and Lily Phillips, you’ve kept nothing back for yourself.
